$630 mil net worth fails to make cutoff

Poor Michael.

On top of all his other well-publicized problems this year, Mouse House CEO Michael Eisner now has to endure one more indignity — getting dropped from the Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans.

Not that he’s necessarily any poorer this year, it’s just that the really, really rich are richer this year. Eisner’s $630 million net worth reported last year wasn’t enough to make the cutoff of $750 million this year.

If it’s any consolation, Eisner’s nemesis (at least one of them) Brian Roberts (net worth $625 million last year), the Comcast topper who was trying to take over Disney earlier this year, also fell off the list. But another nemesis, Roy Disney, not only stayed on the list, he moved up a few slots to No. 278 with $1 billion.

Another ex-media conglom chairman managed to stay on the list. Stephen Case increased his net worth from $610 million last year to $825 million and landed at No. 363. His Time Warner stock is up a little from last year and his investments in pineapple farms, real estate and a luxury vacation club must be doing well.

Topping the Forbes list again this year is Microsoft’s Bill Gates, with a fortune listed at $48 billion. Top entertainment media mogul is Viacom’s Sumner Redstone at No. 20 and $8.1 billion. He’s followed by EchoStar’s Charlie Ergen at No. 23 with $7.3 billion. A slew of names in the top 100 slots include Murdoch, Kerkorian, Anschutz, Geffen, Lucas, Perenchio, Jobs, Spielberg and Saban.
